i think the value of virginity should be taken in conjunction with the kind of sex a person engages in and believes to be acceptable. i believe these are the 4 general classes:

1. Casual Sex. when you have an itch, it needs to be scratched, regardless of who the scratcher is. sabi nga ni tado, para kang carinderia – bukas sa lahat nang gustong kumain.

2. Love-making Sex. you believe that love is the key ingredient in sex, hence the term “love-making”. kahit marami ka nang naging sexperience, okay lang, basta dapat lahat ng naka-do mo eh mahal mo talaga ng totoo. ikaw yung tipong naniniwalang kelangan mahal mo ang sex partner mo at hindi mo magets ang mga lalaki kung paano nila nakakayanan ang casual sex.

3. Honeymoon Sex. you really did save your virginity for your husband on your wedding night. pwede ring yun kasi ang turo ng simbahan, bawal ang pre-marital sex. imoral daw, masusunog ka sa impiyerno. never mind your friends calling you prude when they found out that you’re still a virgin when you turned 27, at least you were able to give your maidenhood to “The One”.

4. Nun/None Sex. as in none nga, parang madre. pwedeng by choice, o yun talaga ang itinakda ng tadhana. ingat ka, sabi ng matatanda, mas mataas ang probability na magka-ovarian at cervical cancer ang mga matandang dalaga. hindi raw kasi nagagamit.

in any case, regardless of what type of sex you engage in, i think that what’s most important when it comes to sex, both the act and decisions concerning the act, is respect. your self-respect and the respect your partner has for you. yes, more important than love because love ain’t even included in casual sex.

basta buo ang respeto mo sa sarili mo, kahit ano pang trip mong sex, ke virgin ka man o hindi, yun ang mahalaga. at the end of the day, what you think about yourself is more important than what others think of you.

virginity is only physical. self-respect transcends the emotional and psychological, notwithstanding what you think is moral.

at least in our case, we can say that our revised penal code was enacted in 1932. too bad for leann, circumstances haven’t changed as much 77 years after.

Mahirap palang maging nag-iisang anak.

Nung bata pa ako, akala ko patok maging only child ng nanay at tatay ko kasi sa akin lahat ng atensyon nila. Pag may gusto ko ako, mas madalas sa hindi na naibibigay yon sa akin ng magulang ko. Napag-aral din nila ako sa mga okay na eskwelahan dahil hindi naman naging isyu ang tuition dahil ako lang naman ang pag-aaralin nila. Nabigyan pa ako ng bagong kotse nung 18th birthday ko kasi ako lang naman ang pinagkakagastusan nila.

Pero shempre, may set off din pala yon. Pag solo mo ang sarap, solo mo rin ang hirap.

Gaya nung nagtayo ng hardware na wala akong karelyebo mamahala at magtinda. Parang nung na-stroke si papa na kelangan kong maging matatag at gumawa ng mga desisyon para sa pamilya. Nung si mama naman ang naospital, kelangan ding asikasuhin kahit kelangan ko mag-aral para sa final exams dahil wala naman akong kapalit magbantay. Kapag may gastos dahil sa mga emergency, ako rin lang ang mag-isang sasagot nun.

Kaya pakiusap, mag-anak tayo ng marami. Yung maraming-marami na pang basketball team, volleyball team, baseball team at kung anu-ano pang sports team. Hanggang kaya pa natin mag-anak, sige lang. Hindi naman yung iresponsable na kahit wala na tayong maipapakain sa kanila eh sige pa rin. Basta yung kaya namang mamuhay ng maayos, kahit simple lang. At yung alam natin na kaya natin silang palakihin bilang mga produktibong kasapi ng lipunan.

Hindi bale nang tayo ang mahirapan sa pagpapalaki sa kanila, basta wag lang sila ang mahirapan sa pagharap sa buhay na walang katuwang na mga kapatid. Isipin mo na lang kung magiging gaano kasaya ang bawat family reunion. Game?

i didn’t cry because of charice and celine singing “because you loved me” which they dedicated to charice’s mom; not because oprah showed clips of charice’s life in san pedro, laguna (na talaga namang mga sari-sari store at sa palengke pa ata ang setting, maybe to emphasize her third world origins); not because oprah centered her spiel on how charice’s dreams are coming true since she has sang with david foster, andrea bocelli, and now her ultimate idol celine dion (celine by the way said that oprah called her and asked if she can sing with charice); definitely not because of the audience shot showing everyone crying; and most certainly not because i like charice’s singing because i definitely don’t (i describe sarah geronimo’s and carol banawa’s voices as pure and crystal-clear, and listening to charice is like standing next to a full-sized drum bugle lyre band while they’re playing).

i think i cried because it’s overwhelming to see a pinoy singing at madison square garden, before 40,000 people, with a world great like celine dion and where the crowd gave her a standing ovation afterwards. ang galing di ba. kaya naman pala natin yung mga ganong achievements eh. it’s similar to seeing pacquiao win all those fights. it makes me damn pround to see one of our own achieving something as great as that.

my partner and i already had our valentines date last february 3 and hindi naman talaga sya originally intended na para sa valentines.  it just so happened that i was tired from doing my research paper and reviewing for midterms exam at sya naman from organizing two major school events so we decided to get massages. treat nya yung spa so nahiya naman ako and i offered to take her out to dinner. since nagtitipid kami as a couple, sabi ko pancake house na lang. and to lessen the guilt over the costs, we just termed it our valentines date.

the thing is, we do that a lot. yung lalabas lang kayo kahit wala lang. kakain, manonood ng sine, mag-spa, magkekwentuhan lang. kahit ano, basta magkasama.

moral of the story: you don’t need valentines day to go out on a date or spend time with your special someone. cliche man, you can make ordinary days special. same with mothers’ day and fathers’ day to show appreciation for your parents.

holidays are for people who forget (na pinapalaganap naman ng mga kapitalistang hallmark at flower shop owners :p ).

travel: first time ko nakapunta ng boracay (first time in May, may repeat pa ng November, and both for free), Subic (Camayan beach and Ocean adventure), and Palawan (i got to see the Underground River).  naka-uwi pa ko ng bicol at twice pa kami nag-matabungkay ng law school block ko.

food trips: parang mga kabuteng nagsulputan ang mga bagong restos at shempre isa ako sa mga willing tasters… little tokyo (hana and urameshi ya), greenbelt 5 (pia y damaso, john and yoko, la maison), serendra/high street (polu kai), at marami pang iba…

weddings: parang andaming kinasal like mishy and kim, jo and sel, sir alvin, my cousin anne, lois and paulo, counted na rin sina dex/riza at ayee/gemma. marami pang iba pero sorry at hindi ako nakapunta sa wedding nyo.

THE YEAR THAT IS — 2009 — should be serious and all about discipline and determination to be brought about by a life changing event: THE BAR EXAM.

nagbibigay kasi sya ng tips kung paano makakatipid sa noche buena. ito sabi nya:

tip no. 1: imbes na mag buko salad or fruit salad, mag saging con hielo na lang.

ok ang tip no. 1. oo nga naman, kasi sa buko/fruit salad, bibili ka pa ng fruit cocktail, nestle cream, gatas, buko, etc. etc. eh mahal pa yon. sa banana con hielo, saging, gatas, yelo at arnibal lang ang kelangan.

tip no. 2: imbes na mag spaghetti, magmacaroni na lang.

ano raw?!?! bahket, ano ba ang pinagkaiba ng macaroni sa spaghetti? pareho lang naman ang sauce nun ah, yung pastang ginamit lang ang nagkaiba. and i doubt na malayo ng presyo ng isang kilong macaroni sa isang kilong spaghetti.

i was surprised myself when the jeep i was riding passed by that area at 7am (i had to get to UP by 7:30) and the wonderful scent of nilagang mais permeated the air. Ito yung mga manong mais na nagluluto na ng kanilang ilalako.

next question. ano naman ang amoy sa elliptical road surrounding quezon memorial circle at 7-9 in the morning and 3-6 in the afternoon (medyo rush hour pa ito ha).

o sige, pwede na yung amoy usok galing sa mga smoke belchers. pero ang pinakamaamoy mo talaga is the smell of garbage left by garbage trucks on their way to payatas/rizal dumpsites.

moral lesson: we all have preconceived notions about a lot of things but we should be open to the possibility that reality is not what we thought/believed it to be.
